Worcester Common Ground Receives Grant From The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts’ 2020 Activation Fund

December 29, 2020

This generous contribution of $100,000 will support the construction of Worcester’s first-ever rooftop greenhouse atop our new rental housing project at 126 Chandler Street. This greenhouse project was developed in response to growing demand for urban agriculture opportunities in our neighborhood. It will replicate many of the same ideas that came to life in our urban bioshelter at Jaques Ave, less than a block from 126 Chandler Street. It will feature hydroponic growing systems which use water and added nutrients, rather than soil, as the growing medium. Accessible to all residents in the building, the greenhouse will also be utilized as an educational space for our community at large, including a variety of elementary and high schools, colleges and universities.

The Activation Fund supports discrete projects addressing health in Central Massachusetts that activate: Creative and innovative approaches; Strategic new partnerships; Exploration of emerging challenges and opportunities; and Increased capacity and effectiveness.

Many thanks to our additional funding partners for their support of this project: TD Bank Housing For Everyone and Berkshire Bank.
